THE ACTEON WORKSHOP: Piezo ultrasonics in surgery -an option to explore Faculty: Jean-François Michel and Marie Grace P Michel

Abstract:Now that dental implant therapy is rapidly becoming the prosthetic standard of care for a vast array of clinical applications, we are faced with the challenge of developing dynamic treatment planning protocols that considers and prepares the pre-implant sites. It is in this regard that the use of piezoelectric surgical generators and specialized tips comes as a replacement to conventional surgical instruments when performing delicate interventions like osteotomy, ridge expansion/augmentation, bone block/chip harvesting, periotomy/atraumatic extractions, or sinus lifting. The piezoelectricity-aided surgery offers patient comfort (both pre-and post-operative), security and precision in the surgical approach of the clinician.

There is a learning curve to these techniques thus it requires prior training. This course will familiarize the participants with the new instrumentation through lectures, video presentations, demonstrations and/or hands-on training.
